CHAPTER FOUR 113 existence of its own in heaven, and was present in heaven like a physical human being. And it was essential that that reality should again descend in the latter days. Thus that Messianic reality has now descended in the form of a physical human being and it has broken the cross. And the evil habits of deception and worship of falsehood - which our Holy Prophet had likened unto the swine, in a hadith about the cross—have been torn into pieces by the breaking of the cross just as a swine is cut down by a sword. It is wrong to interpret this hadith to mean that the Promised Messiah would kill the infidels and physically break crosses. In reality, the breaking of the cross means that at that time, the God of Heaven and Earth would manifest such a hidden reality as would, all of a sudden, result in the breaking up of the entire structure of the cross. And by the killing of swine is not meant the killing of men, or of swine, but the killing of swinish habits, that is to say, to per- sist in falsehood and promote it incessantly, which is like the eat- ing of excrement. Thus, just as a dead swine cannot eat filth, so, the time is fast approaching-in fact, it has already come-when those possessing evil habits would be prevented from such gorg- ing on filth. Muslim clerics, the Ulama, have been grossly mis- taken in the interpretation of this prophecy of the Holy Prophet. The true meanings of the breaking of the cross and of the killing of the swine are the ones we have mentioned. It is indeed also writ- ten that religious wars would come to an end in the time of the Promised Messiah, and such bright truths will be manifested from the heaven as would display a brilliant distinction between the truth and falsehood.
