100 JESUS IN INDIA the life of Jesus, the Messiah, and his moral teaching, they mixed them up with many of their own innovations and ascribed them to the Buddha. Presently I shall prove that the part of the moral teaching of Buddhism which resembles that of the Gospels, and these titles like 'Light, etc. which are attributed to the Buddha as they are to Jesus, the Messiah, and the Satanic temptations, are all details which were incorporated into the Buddhist literature only after Jesus, the Messiah, came to this country after the dispersion caused by the events of the crucifixion. And then there is yet another resemblance between the Buddha and Jesus, the Messiah. Buddhist chronicles show that the Buddha during the temptation was fasting and that he kept forty fasts. Readers of the Gospels know that Jesus, the Messiah, also observed forty fasts. And as I have just mentioned, there is so much similarity between the moral teachings of Buddha and Jesus, the Messiah, that everyone who is acquainted with both the teachings will be amazed. For example, it is written in the Gospels that, do not resist evil, and love your enemies, and live in poverty, and shun pride, falsehood and greed; and this exactly is the teaching of the Buddha. Rather the Buddhist teaching lays greater stress and emphasis on it, so much so that the killing even of ants and insects has been considered a sin. The great teaching put forth by 1.
