CHAPTER THREE 85 the eyes of everyone shall open and thinking people shall begin to ponder, for the Messiah of God has come; it is now incumbent that minds become illumined; hearts begin to respond; pens come alive; and the people gird up their loins. And now every fortunate one shall be given insight; and every rightly guided person shall be granted wisdom, for, whatever shines in heaven must of neces- sity illuminate the earth. Blessed is he who partakes of a portion from this light. And how fortunate indeed is the person who gains something from this heavenly light. As can be observed, fruit rip- ens at its appointed time, similarly, heavenly light also descends at its appointed time. None can make it descend before it comes down of its own accord; nor can anyone stop it from descending when it does descend. It is of course necessary that there be con- troversy and conflict but truth will prevail in the end, for this is not the work of man; nor has the son of man the power to do it; it is indeed from God who causes the seasons to change, alter- nates the days of prosperity and misfortune, and converts night into day and day into night. He brings about darkness but desires light. He even lets polytheistic beliefs [shirk] to spread, but His love is reserved for His Oneness [Tauhid]. He does not desire that His Glory be accorded to anyone else. From the time of creation of man, and until he disappears from the world, the divine law of nature has indeed been that He always supports His Tauhid or Oneness. All the prophets sent by Him came only so that by eradicating the worship of man, and of other creatures, they may establish the worship of God in the world. Their duty was to make the essence of لا إله إلا الله ]There is no one worthy of worship except Allah'] shine in the earth as it shines in heaven.
